Biography
Marina Beeson is a Los Angeles-based soprano and librettist from Dunkirk, Maryland. Raised in a family of classical musicians, Marina was instilled with a love of music from an early age. Her recent operatic roles include Despina (cover) in Così fan Tutte (Opera Italia), Nina in Chérubin (University of Southern California Thornton Opera), Soprano in Saariaho’s La Passion de Simone, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte (Hawaii Performing Arts Festival), and Tina in Flight (University of Southern California Thornton Opera). As a member of New England Conservatory’s Undergraduate Opera Studio, Marina portrayed the roles of Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Amy in Little Women(Young Artist Initiative), and Roselinde in Die Fledermaus.
Passionate about performing new works, she premiered Lila Quillin’s "Elohim Bekirbah” in recital at the 2020 International Saxophone Symposium. Marina has also performed as a recitalist at Annemarie Gardens Artsfest, USC’s Graduate Recital Series, St. Nicholas Lutheran Church Recital Series, and NEC’s Song and Verse Program. After earning the Calvert County Arts in Education Award in 2020, Marina won the gold prize at the World Classical Music Awards vocal competition in 2021.
As a music educator, Marina has taught both in her private studio and at Garrett Music Academy since 2017. She co-lead and served as music director for the “I Am the Lead” musical theater program and organized the “Opera is Cool” classical music education program. She currently teaches private voice and piano lessons at Sunset Learning Studio and co-teaches Opera Italia’s Youth Opera Theater class. Accessibility to classical music and music education is a cornerstone of Marina’s work. Her advocacy expands beyond arts accessibility to the pressing issue of Global Warming as she uses her platform to raise awareness for ocean conservation.
Her past summers have been spent participating in the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival (2023), Berlin Opera Academy (2022), Bard College Conservatory’s Vocal Arts Summer Institute (2020), and Eastman School of Music’s Alexander Technique for Musicians Intensive (2019). Marina is a vocal student of Thomas Michael Allen and began working with him at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where she graduated with her Master of Music in Vocal Arts in May of 2024. Marina graduated from New England Conservatory in May of 2021 with her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance degree under the instruction of Lisa Saffer. She is currently working on the completion of her first operatic libretto as a member of the Guerilla Opera Writing Collective.
